Dr. Butler is board certified in family medicine and has a specialty certification in addiction medicine.  His outpatient practice in Nashville provides integrated medical and behavioral care to patients with mental health or substance abuse issues.

Dwight Deter, PA-C
Mr. Deter has been practicing endocrinology with Southwest Endocrine Consultants in El Paso for over 30 years.  He graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine PA Program prior to moving to El Paso.  As one of the first PA’s to enter the field of endocrinology, he has seen a major evolution of the treatment and monitoring of diabetes and cardiometabolic diseases.  He has been a frequent speaker at local, state and national PA meetings to help keep our colleagues up to date on the most recent advances.
As an active leader of the PA profession, Dwight has served in numerous leadership roles of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, American Society of Endocrine Physician Assistants, and Texas Physician Assistant Board. 

Cystic Fibrosis

Elizabeth Perkett, MD
Dr. Perkett is a professor of Pediatrics, a Pediatric Pulmonologist, and the Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  Dr. Perkett is a member of the National Cystic Fibrosis Center committee which provides oversight for the Cystic Fibrosis Center accreditation and review of care guidelines.  She represents Tennessee on the National Cystic Fibrosis Screening committee and is involved in the implementation of Cystic Fibrosis newborn screening in Tennessee.

Developmental/Behavioral Screening for Primary Care Providers...

Quentin Humberd, MD, FAAP
Dr. Humberd is Chief of the Exceptional Family Member Program at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He is board certified in pediatrics, with subspecialty certification in developmental-behavioral pediatrics. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Past President of the Tennessee Chapter of the AAP, member of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and an Associate Clinical Professor in Pediatrics at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine.

After earning his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, Memphis, Dr. Humberd completed a pediatrics residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, Colorado. He was fellowship trained in developmental/ behavioral pediatrics at Madigan

Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington.  Over the last 25 years Dr. Humberd has practiced both as faculty in a pediatric residency training program and in a private practice setting.  He returned to the military community in 2005 as a civilian and now specializes in the evaluation and treatment of special needs children and their families.

With special interests including the assessment and treatment of developmental delays and the diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Dr. Humberd lectures on topics including using developmental and behavioral screening tools in primary care and the early recognition of autism spectrum disorders. During his tenure as chapter president of the Tennessee Chapter of the AAP, he worked as a public policy advocate for a variety of children’s health issues.  These included screening and treatment of children with special needs, and training for primary care providers on early detection and referral for children with developmental, behavioral, and emotional problems.  He is appointed to Tennessee’s state interagency coordinating council for early intervention.

Diabetes Mellitus: New Advances in Optimal Control Dwight Deter, PA-C
Mr. Deter has been practicing endocrinology in El Paso for over 30 years with Southwest Endocrine Consultants.  He has also been active in Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, AAPA, American Society of Endocrine PA’s, American Diabetes Association and the Texas Physician Assistant Board.   As a frequent speaker at local, state, and national meetings, Mr. Deter will share the latest information and trends in the management of diabetes and cardiometabolic diseases.

R. Jason Thurman, MD, FAAEM
Dr. Thurman received his training at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Thurman joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2002 and currently serves as the Associate Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.  Dr. Thurman’s major interest includes medical education, medical photography, and acute stroke treatment.  He also serves as the Department of Emergence Medicine’s Patient Safety officer.  He has spoken both nationally and internationally.

Prescribing Practices: Preventing Red Flags

Steve Winbery, MD
Dr. Winbery is Medical Director at QSource, Tennessee’s physician peer review/quality improvement organization (PRO/QIO).  In this role, Dr. Winbery provides clinical leadership and support for all levels of quality of care review, medical review and across all clinical settings.  Dr. Winbery has worked for QSource since 1995.  He maintains his clinical privileges as an attending physician in the Emergency Room at the Methodist University Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Martin Jordanov is the Assistant Professor in the Departments of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, and Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Vaccination Update

David Hrncir, MD
Dr. Hrncir is a board-certified allergist/immunologist with both military and private practice experience.  He retired from the United States Air Force in 2001.  He is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and Southwestern Medical School.  He is board-certified in Pediatrics, Aerospace Medicine, and Allergy/Immunology.  He received additional medical education at the School of Hygiene & Public Health, John Hopkins University; David Grant Medical Center Pediatric Residency; School of Aerospace Medicine and Wilford Hall Medical Center Allergy & Immunology Fellowship.  His assignments in the Air Force included Incirlik Air Base, Turkey; Bergstrom AFB, Texas; Royal Air Force Bentwaters, UK; Scott AFB, IL and Lackland AFB, TX.  Dr. Hrncir maintains professional affiliations within the medical community as a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association.  He has an active private allergy & immunology practice with Southwest Allergy & Asthma Center, San Antonio, Texas.  As a Regional Vaccine Healthcare Center Medical Director since June 2003, Dr. Hrncir supports the San Antonio Military Medical Center and National Vaccine Healthcare Network through clinical consultation and education on vaccine safety and vaccine-related adverse events.
